Everyone hates cold season. As a Canadian, I can tell you that the fluctuating temperatures do nothing to help my immune system. Last week it was 20˚ Celsius, and this morning it was snowing! Despite my attentiveness to the weather forecast, I always find myself unprepared. My solution is to bring a hat, gloves, and scarf in my bag wherever I go. But I know for many, they’ve already been stuck by man’s worst enemy: the seasonal cold. And what accompanies every cold? That itchy, scratchy feeling in your throat that makes it painful to swallow, occasionally accompanied by phlegm and another nasty stuff. Though my solution isn’t a cure, it will certainly help relieve the symptoms and soothe any throat pain you may have. So here it is: my ultimate sore throat remedy.
What you’ll need:
3-4 slices of lemon (circular slices, not wedges) with the seeds remove
1 teabag of green tea
4-5 mint leaves
1 tsp of honey (you can use a variable amount) or agave
1 throat lozenge (I use lemon-flavoured Halls)
Combine all the ingredients in mug, and let sit until the lozenge has dissolved. Remove the green tea bag and voilà! Your own homemade sore throat remedy!
Remember to drink lots of fluids (water is the best) and gets a good night’s sleep! There’s no true cure to a cold except your own body’s immunity, so give yourself the best fighting chance you can.
