This is my own personal hot chocolate recipe, that is in my opinion the best. Instant hot chocolate is good, but can never quite compare to the real thing. The recipe can be found at the bottom of the post.
Ingredients: serves 2-3
- 500 mL milk
- 8 oz. dark chocolate (high quality)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 125 mL 35% cream *
VEGAN ALTERNATIVE
- 500 mL almond milk, soy milk, or water
- 8 oz. vegan unsweetened chocolate
- 1/4 sugar
- 125 mL coconut milk
Procedure:
- Heat the milk in a pot on medium-low until the milk is steaming **
- Grate the dark chocolate, or cut it up into small pieces
- Once the milk is steaming, add the chocolate, stirring continuously
- Add the sugar once the chocolate has melted. Stir until fully dissolved
- Add the cream, stir, and heat until the mixture reaches a simmer. Remove from heat and serve immediately.
** Use a double boiler if you’re worried about burning the milk
* Use skim milk and 10% cream for a lower fat alternative
